Golden Relationships: “Where do we start?”

God Gold of the day

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬

So here we are, on this magnificent journey to learn what it looks like in our lives to live on mission for Christ! And not just any mission, but the GREAT COMMISSION!!! In these lessons it will be an adventure in each day, like any adventure, there will be challenges, conviction leading to questioning self, your heart and also there will be a rising up to a new life, lived in a new way all to share with people the greatest person to ever walk the earth, Jesus Christ!! So buckle up your seat belts and put on one of those cool hats on like Indiana Jones wears, and let’s take off on this journey together!!

We see that Jesus left this Great Commission for us as our purpose for our lives. To spread the Gospel to others and make disciples!!! That can sound like an overwhelming and daunting task because it is so BIG but instead of just leaving you with this mission that Christ has given us, we are going to keep digging into what “living on mission for Christ looks like in our lives?”

So today we dig into the question, ““And Jesus came and said to them, “where does living on mission for Christ start?” Like anything else in life, it’s hard to be told to do something without instructions or having been taught on what steps to take first. So here we will look at where this living on mission for Christ in our lives starts.

It’s starts with RELATIONSHIPS!!! It starts with the relationships of those around us but even before we get into that, there is an even bigger and more important relationship that we start in. It’s our personal relationship with Jesus. There is no relationship more important than this one. And we see in these verses from Matthew where Jesus gives us the Great Commission that He has not only given us the mission and purpose of our lives but He has shed light on how we have been equipped to live our lives on mission.

We see that Jesus says to start off, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Okay, well that’s cool but how does that equip me and you? Look down to verse 20, where Jesus also says, “I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

Do you see the MAGNITUDE of that truth!!! We see all that Jesus has access to, literally EVERYTHING, we see His unlimited power and how in control He is of it all but that’s not it. What makes this truth even more awesome for me and you is that Jesus is with us always!!! This same, powerful, in control Jesus is living this life with us, through us and for us!!!

Building golden Relationships, living on this great mission for Christ by making disciples and loving others, just having the ability to love, serve, and impact others lives, all these things can be things we hold so much doubt over, we have a fear of failure with it, worry, anxiety or whatever it may be for you. We see in these verses this Great Commission that is so HUGE it can be so overwhelming for us, but we also see that all this baggage of defeat that hinders us in living this out, we don’t have to carry because we have Jesus, who is all powerful and in control of everything, we have Him WITH US!!! God didn’t give us this GREAT commission to do in what we got, because that’s what makes it seem impossible! God has equipped us with a relationship with Jesus, where we are completely ONE and have access to Him, His power, and everything about Him all the time!! With Jesus, the tables turn from what seemed overwhelming and impossible and is transformed to so awesome and more than possible!!!

So this is where living on mission for Christ and building golden relationships start, with Jesus. This is where we start with everything in our lives, daily and constantly throughout our day acknowledging this relationship we have with Christ! Submitting our selves and our lack to Him, in surrender to Jesus, He changes everything! Trusting and faithfully walking in who He is and our identities in Him!!!

To live on mission for Christ is all about relationships where our relationship with Christ being the starting place where we lean our lives, where we place our dependence, and prioritize Him over everything! A life submitted to Jesus, with Him at the lead, how we handle the relationships around us pours out from our relationship with Him.

So much could be talked about on all that Jesus brings to our lives but for today I just challenge you to take hold of this truth, spend intentional time with Jesus, even when things are tough and you really don’t feel like loving or serving the people around you, keep running to Jesus time and time again!!! Ask Him for strength, guidance or whatever you need and know that He is with you, and He has got you!

Over the next few days there’s so many principles and lessons that will be looked at but all of that is nothing without Jesus. To find out what it looks like for you to live on mission for Christ and build golden Relationships, it all starts with your relationship to Jesus. It’s there where you’ll be fueled in this mission to love others and make disciples. And the biggest reason I share this with you is because without Jesus we will always struggle. Our humanity and sinful nature song with all the worldly influences we face every day builds up walls of self-righteousness, selfishness, self-focused, selfish living, walls of doubt, defeat and fear.

The only thing that I’ve found to break down those walls and free us up to serve God by serving others is JESUS!!! Jesus being at the lead of our lives removes all of those walls I just mentioned and when we spend intentional time with Him, through prayer and in His Word, that’s where everything changes! He opens us up to see the truth that unclutters all of our selfish, sinful and all the worldly influences we face. Aligning yourself with Jesus is being aligns your heart with His, your mind with the way He thinks, your eyes to see people in the love that He sees them in! Jesus opens us up to loving others that we would otherwise hate or treat badly if it was left up to us. We start with Jesus because there is no other or better place to start!!!

Without Jesus we can do nothing, with Him we can do anything! If you don’t get anything from any of these upcoming God Golds don’t miss this!!!! Jesus is the beginning of this journey of making a lasting impact in the lives around us! Anything we want to achieve is only achieved by Jesus living through us! He is our fuel, He moves our perspective from sinful human to seeing life and others in His good, Godly and perfect sight! As we align ourselves with Jesus, we move, live and love like Him! He is where we start, He is where we finish, He is the source for our every need and the most important part of our lives! And most importantly, Jesus is WITH US!!!

Golden Relationships

God Gold of the day

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.””

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭28:18-20‬ ‭

I hope everyone has had an awesome weekend! I’m pumped up for the week ahead and even more pumped up to share with you some really really really GOLDEN truths from God this week that I pray will push you and challenge you, and also teach you in so many ways for you to apply to your lives daily!

Last week, thankfully, God taught me some big time lessons on the area of “relationships.” It’s an area that I had looked over and lost focus of for so long but last week God put it on my heart and taught me some really awesome stuff about the importance of relationships and how to apply the lessons learned from His Word to the relationships He’s placed around me. I can’t begin to explain how full I felt last week! Embracing relationships, spending time being led by the Holy Spirit to be intentional in how I encourage others and love them, I just ket realizing more and more that this is what it’s all about! RELATIONSHIPS!!!

So this week we are going to dig into and tackle what seems to be the most challenging but also the most important area of our lives with Jesus, RELATIONSHIPS!!! After spending some more time in this tonight with some youth and my youth pastor, it hit me even harder not just how important relationships are, but also how in this world we have been led astray from bringing to those relationships what Jesus has called us to. As you see the verse above, I know I know, you’re probably thinking I’m about to give you this hyped up message on how we’re commanded to share the gospel and make disciples, and leave you with a convicting guilt trip of reasons why we need to be doing that. But I’m not. Well, not yet anyways!

These two verses where we see the Jesus gives us the Great Commission, these are going to be what we hold to during this time and stay close to as we dig into relationships. The easy thing to do is hammer home this mission given to us by Jesus and remind you this is what we need to be doing, but I’ve noticed in my own life and many others, that as followers of Christ we know the Great Commission, we know that Jesus has called us to make disciples and share the good news with others but I’ve noticed that a lot of preachers and people today hammer that home to us without actually showing us “what that looks like in our daily lives?”

That is why instead of hammering home more truth that you are already aware of, I want to spend time equipping you and being equipped myself to learn the little building block steps of faith we need to take to make this true in the relationships that God has placed in our lives! I know I personally see this and hear messages preached about this and so overwhelmed by how I need to be living on mission for Christ in this way, but without actually knowing what that would look like in my life, I fall short and feel like the weight of sharing the gospel with someone is too great for me to carry, I feel so overwhelmed that I just don’t even want to try because I don’t feel like I can or the fear of failure kicks in, or I feel like it’s not that big of a deal because nobody else around me is doing it or making an emphasis to do it so I can slip by comfortably without any body ever noticing. There’s a million reasons why we don’t take up our crosses and follow Jesus on this mission He’s given us so this week we’re going to dig into that. We’re going to dig through God’s Word and start with little, tiny steps that we can take in the relationships we have around us in our lives and learn how to live out this great commission in our lives. The biggest thing I want you to know is that I’m just as scared as you are and I’m learning right alongside you in this! I’ve put this to the side a lot of days of my life but there’s a reason why it’s called the GREAT, commission and not just the commission, because it’s bigger than anything else we’ll ever do, it brings a level of greatness to others lives as they experience Jesus and grow in Him and a level of greatness to our lives as we surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit and live this out daily.

So I just challenge you to meditate on these verses today, take some time to do some self evaluation on what scares you about this, why you don’t, who in your life could be that someone that God wants you to share the love of Christ with, and what little steps can you take to serve and love that person to begin building a foundation in which we will build on with the Good news of Jesus!

This week and hey, maybe two weeks or a month, just however long the Lord wants us to dig into this, we are going to dig into and see what it looks like to live on mission for Christ in the relationships that He’s placed around us in our daily lives! The aim through this is for the Great Commission to not just be something we KNOW, but to find our what it looks like in our lives so that it’s something we DO!!!

God Gold of the Day

‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’

Psalm 46:1-11

Today was tough in many different ways for me. I all around struggled to keep my eyes on God, with my eyes going many different places, without God at the lead of my life I struggled. Today was also a day where this time last year I was on an airplane headed across the world to serve in the mission field of Rwanda. The team is currently on their way on this years trip and I struggled with the fact that I’m not with them. The last couple of years on two trips to this beautiful country, God completely changed my life in so many ways. I could never put to words the work God did on my heart while on these trips but after meeting new people and those people quickly becoming family to me, sitting at home waiting to see the Rwanda team’s facebook updates has not sat well with me.

It’s tough to step away from those BIG, life-changing moments and settle in to everyday life with work, to-do lists, and all of the mundane things we do every day. The truth I realized this morning while my heart was so restless was in these verses. Even though I’m not on those trips this year, even though I’m sitting at home instead of flying to Rwanda, God is still the same God here as He was while I was there. God is still there for me as my refuge and my strength, He is in full control of our lives and this wild world we live in. As much as I want to question it and say, “why God?” These verses brought me to peace knowing that God is in control, if He wanted me on that mission for Him then I’d be there. As I see that door being shut, seeing the truth of God’s presence in my life whether I’m at the grocery store, at work, or in the mission field, I can rest in the fact that I’m right where God wants me and there His “mission” is right here in front of me! It’s hard to see it that way at times but it’s BIGGER than what our eyes can see. I took such comfort today in these truths from God’s Word, just hearing,

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.’

Instead of running in circles of insecurity and being anxious, it’s those simple words, just STOP!!! Be still, stop overthinking, stop relying on your own vision or what the world tells you and just STOP!!! And God speaks, “Be still and know that I am God.” Being still is easier said than done but being still and putting everything else around me to the side, thinking and stepping into God’s constant presence, know that He is God, He is in control, He is at work for my good, He is my fortress that I can rest securely in, trusting in His provision, faithfulness, and protection. To be still was dificult for me today and it usually is everyday but being still allowed me to see the truth. No matter where we go, what we do, or what we think, God is going to be exalted across this earth. To think about that and see how God doesn’t need me because He will be exalted with or without me. He may not need us but He calls us, chooses us, uses us. How awesome is that?!?!? God is God and I am not, be still and rest in where God has placed you, the people He has placed around you, trust that the God who created all that we see around us knows exactly what He is doing so with God on our side, we can be still and rest in His presence, embrace the calling of loving others as He loves us, and just continue being still, resting in Him.

Also, I want to ask for a prayer request from you today. The mission team is on the way to Rwanda and I just ask that you lift them up today in your prayers. Pray that God will provide all they need to attack this mission for Him, that God will provide them strength to continue serving despite how tired they may be, that God would give them wisdom and discernment to speak and serve the people of Rwanda in the most glorifying way possible. Pray that God would open up their hearts and eyes to see God in new and bigger ways but also the people they are serving would be impacted greatly from their faithfulness. Pray that God will use them in a mighty way and that lives will be forever changed, exalting God above all.

Don’t just pray for them but let’s all take some time to pray for all the missionaries God has called to go and serve. Whether that’s in foreign countries or right here at home. Pray for each fellow believer that they would live each day on mission, embrace the opportunities God has placed around them to share how good He is whether that’s at their jobs, at the grocery store, wherever, whatever and whoever! If we are breathing, we are on mission! Excited to embrace this new vision of seeing that being on “mission” doesn’t have to be in the mission field, it’s simply where God has us right now around the people God has set before us in our path!
