Less Doubt More Faith

God Gold of the Day

“But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you’?” Then the Lord asked him, “What is that in your hand?” “A shepherd’s staff,” Moses replied. “Throw it down on the ground,” the Lord told him. So Moses threw down the staff, and it turned into a snake! Moses jumped back. Then the Lord told him, “Reach out and grab its tail.” So Moses reached out and grabbed it, and it turned back into a shepherd’s staff in his hand. “Perform this sign,” the Lord told him. “Then they will believe that the Lord, the God of their ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—really has appeared to you.” Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out again, his hand was white as snow with a severe skin disease. “Now put your hand back into your cloak,” the Lord said. So Moses put his hand back in, and when he took it out again, it was as healthy as the rest of his body. The Lord said to Moses, “If they do not believe you and are not convinced by the first miraculous sign, they will be convinced by the second sign. And if they don’t believe you or listen to you even after these two signs, then take some water from the Nile River and pour it out on the dry ground. When you do, the water from the Nile will turn to blood on the ground.” But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.””

-Exodus 4:1-10

I ran across this story from Exodus about a fella named Moses. It’s a pretty popular story that I’m sure most of you have heard but took something away from it today that really helped me see this relationship I have with God and who He is even deeper. I pray this message can open you up to see God in the bigness and awesomeness that He’s in and it can be an encouragement for you also!

Reading over this Word, there is so much that can be taken from it! The context surrounding this conversation between Moses and God is that God’s calling Moses to go into Israel and ask the Pharaoh to let the Israelites go. The Israelites who have been there for years now working as slaves, I don’t know about you but much like Moses I’d be afraid to go the king and ask this. Wouldn’t you?

In this conversation we can see so much into who we are but even more into who God is! Moses starts off these verses in doubt, “what if they don’t believe me?” Moses is obviously fearful and worried about how this will play out. Then God being who He is, gives Moses three different ways, “signs” which are completely AMAZING! Only miracles that God has the power to do. In that, God is giving Moses all the reasons why they will believe him, why they will believe that God has sent Him. But what lies deeper here isn’t just Moses’ worry and doubt over what the Pharaoh will think or say, Moses is in doubt that he can answer this call from God and walk out what God is calling him to do. Moses’ doubts root from himself. The first batch of doubts are more of excuses that unleash his real reason for being so afraid in the last verse, “what if I can’t say what you want me to say?” Basically what if I mess up?

Moses is revealing to God that his insecurities are about himself and his incapability to do this for God. So often, I know that throughout my day I focus on me, focus on what I can’t do, what I’m not good at or just my own weaknesses to live as God has called me to live. There are so many moments when I feel like I don’t have what it takes or don’t have the “skills” necessary to do what God wants me to do. Just like Moses, I focus on me and what I can’t do, then use that as an excuses why I won’t even try. We are just as human as Moses and can relate to him so much here, we have moments of doubt, where we feel inadequate or not equipped enough. But the same truth that God placed in front of Moses isn’t just signs to show us why we should be obedient, they are examples and moments where we see who God is, first off that God is saying, “don’t worry, I got you!” Even though you may not have what it takes I just want you to show up in obedience to what I’ve called you to and I’ll be with you, I’ll take care of the rest. How comforting is that? To know that God is with us and fights for us!!!

Then we see that God gives Moses every reason to change his focus from his doubts of what he’s got and we see a picture of every reason we should put all of our focus on God and what He can do which is ANYTHING!!! God’s signs may not look the same way as they do in this story for us but look around you, look at what all His power has created and all the amazing work He’s done in our lives. God gives us everything we need to trust and focus on who He is. When God calls us to live a certain way or do something for Him, although it’s out of our comfort zone, we may feel some initial doubt and worry about if we can do this but always go back to putting your eyes on God and what He can do, what He has done! If we focus on us and what we’ve got then of course we’ll live the rest of our lives making excuses and not ever moving forward into what God has called us to. WHY? Because we don’t have what it takes but we’ve got God and He has more than enough!

What’s really cool about this lesson of obedience, after God continues to show Moses more of Himself, Moses finally moves in obedience to God. Moses goes and eventually helps lead the Israelites out of Egypt where they were in slavery and into FREEDOM, into a place where they accepted God as their Savior! See what happens when we get ourselves out of the way and submit to God and His complete power in our lives? People are SAVED!!! If God calls you to something, it’s okay to feel some doubt in you but just remember that it’s not you that can be obedient or take that next step of faith, it’s God and who He is that moves us out of our self-doubt and into faith and trust in Him! Focus on God, who He is and what He can do!!! Moving, taking that next step of obedience becomes much easier knowing “I may not have enough, but I’m going to show up and God’s going to show out!!!!” It’s so awesome how God calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things!!! What separates ordinary from extraordinary is having God in it and the good thing is, He’s always in it, we just have to get ourselves out of it! It’s exciting and awesome to think of what God can and will do through people who are obedient to Him out of faith for who He is and what He can do!!!

God Gold of the Day

Looking through some old Gold today that I had sent out awhile back way before these messages started reaching to you. I was stuck on this. It’s from a devotion my buddy Craig sent me and speaks so much truth. CALM. Celebrate God’s goodness. Ask God for help. Leave your concerns with Him. Meditate on good things.

Those four principles brought out by these verses are so HUGE for you and me. In a world filled with so much bad, so much negative talk and influence all around us, it can be easy to be anything but CALM. These past couple of weeks this has been a lesson that’s changed my life a lot and brought me closer than ever in my relationship with the Lord. Focus in on God, what is good, be thankful about what God has given you, and believe that when you take your concerns to God that you can leave them there because God is powerful enough to handle them, God is loving and faithful enough to gladly take them from you. When poop is hitting the fan, things in your life is getting wild, or you are trying to beat a stronghold of sin, whatever it is, be CALM. Remind yourself of CALM.

My grandma shared with me an awesome truth tonight that is simple but holds so much power. Belief causes behavior. If you believe you can’t do something or your situation is impossible then yeah, you are going to live like you can’t, living defeated and your situation will be impossible. The TRUTH is, you can’t but through you Christ can. The truth is that no situation is too impossible for our limitless God to bring you through. If you are CALM, really make a point and be super intentional about focusing on who God is, what He can do and the victory and freedom Christ has already given you, if you believe the truth that God says that anything is possible with Him, if you believe the truth that you can take any concern to God and He will give you more than enough not just to get through but triumph over it, then you will live it. It’s been such a revelation  to me these past couple of weeks, I would focus and believe what I couldn’t do, that my situation was too hard, but the moment your beliefs change, to the truth of what God says about you and who God is. EVERYTHING about how you live, act, speak and walk change completely. If you believe you are a born again child of God who is free of sin and death, who is victorious because of what Christ has done for you, then you best believe you will live like the Child of God that God says you are! Stay CALM, as much as you possibly can, for me I’ve had to pray for God to help my focus to be on Him, to open my eyes to see the blessings and work He is doing all around me, to help my belief. God has faithfully answered my prayers EVERY single time and my faith isn’t in what I can’t do anymore, my faith is completely dependent on God’s faithfulness and power, on what He can do which is literally anything! Be CALM today and let your beliefs grow ever stronger in our mighty, loving, always and forever faithful God!!!

And by the way, this picture is of my buddy Craig who sent me this. As you can see he is modeling what it looks like to be CALM!!!

Remove the Box, Christ is Supreme

God Gold of the Day

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”

‭‭Colossians‬ ‭1:15-17‬

Back in Colossians today!

So much hit me with these verses but one thing in particular stuck out to me that’s something I desperately struggle with and I pray this Gold can be of some benefit to you in your life! Things may get real and some things may be hard to hear in this Gold because God has showed me a lot about me that’s not too great. If you get hit by some truth just know I got hit too and praise God!!! He’s breaking us down to rebuild us better!

Lately I’ve been feeling like I’m going through the motions in my relationship with Christ. Checking off all the religious to-do boxes and even praying in a way where I found myself trying to say all the right things instead of actually sharing my heart with the Lord. It’s an easy thing to do and that’s what makes it so scary that I do this and so many others fall into this trap. These verses struck something in me that showed the root of my routine with Christ and why my faith has become seemingly small. It’s all because of the size of Christ in my life.

Before I dig into the verses and share with you the bigness and just how SUPREME Christ really is, I’ll tell you how I or I guess I can say we so easily and often make Christ out to be much smaller than He really is. How we shrink Christ to the size that makes us feel good putting Christ in a box.

Paul is writing this to the church of Colosse to teach and remind them of the magnitude of Christ because they were having problems with false teachers telling them differently. These teachers were false because they told them that Christ wasn’t enough to be saved because there must be more added to it. You can see in what Paul says here describing who Christ is and what He’s done that he wants these believers in Colosse to know, Christ is enough. He’s actually more than enough and there’s nothing more to be added to Him or taken away from Him to make Him what He already is to us, enough.

Very similar to these early Christians we live in a world that screams false teaching at us constantly. “You need this, do this, try this, be this.” The world says we need to have all these “things”, do all these “things” and be all these “things” because without these “things” we’ll never make it. It’s easy to fall into this “things” influence because if the majority of people around us are investing their lives in “things” don’t we want to fit in? Be more like everybody else? And from years and years of living in this world, especially America where “things” are of abundance, we are used to them. We’ve made it this far off “things” why change it now? Or we enjoy these other “things” so much that we are scared without them we wouldn’t survive. I say all that about “things” because when we fall into this “thing” trap, we drawn away by these influences, we are saying that Christ isn’t enough.

The world says “it’s okay” and we feel “normal” living with our trust in all these “things” but is it?? It hurt realizing how much in my life I make these little, temporary “things” bigger than Christ. You may not want to admit it like I didn’t, but when you take some evaluation of your life, decisions, actions, and thoughts, there’s a lot of “things” telling us that we don’t think Christ is enough.

Is Christ enough? Let’s look at what God’s Word says. “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.” Woah, that’s intense but what does it mean? Paul is saying if you want to know what God looks like, then look at Christ! Jesus Christ is “God in the flesh.” Jesus perfectly revealed to the world God’s nature, character and love. So often we make this image of God that fits into our box, that fits with our own thoughts, desires, and wants. For Jesus to fit in our box that means we end up shrinking Him down to a much smaller size than He actually is. When we place Jesus at the same level or below all the “things” in our life, then the size we see Jesus at, the magnitude of His power and presence in our lives is shrunk to fit.

Look at what else Paul shows us about Jesus, “He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation.”

Jesus existed before all these “things” were ever created. Before we were ever created. And He is SUPREME over every “thing.” Supreme means, “strongest, most important, or most powerful.” Compared to every “thing” Jesus is above it all, He is the stronger, more important and much more powerful.

And, “Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”

We say and live as if Christ isn’t enough. How can that be? Do we see what God’s Word says about Christ, Who He is and what He’s done????

How could there be any”thing” that we put above or trust before the Maker of all things? How could we put so much temporary including our temporary earthly lives above the One who is eternal, has always been and will always be? How could we trust in ourselves or any “thing” to do more or to be in control when Christ holds all of creation together? The One who’s in full control even in control over each breath we take!

How could there be anything that does more or means more than Him? There’s no magic pill, 10-step plan, fancy cars or houses, any amount of money or fame greater than JESUS CHRIST!!! There’s no one person or no one thing of this world with any more significance, power and control than JESUS CHRIST!!! There’s no”thing” that we can try in this world for temporary satisfaction that fills us with more peace or joy in our lives than the never-ending, all-powerful, constantly faithful love of JESUS CHRIST and the LIFE He gives us!!! There’s no tough situation or circumstance, no addiction, no sin, no problem that Christ can’t deliver you through because He is SUPREME!!! Head over everything, the most powerful, most awesome, the BIGGEST of all!!!

When we take away the box we put Jesus in, when we take away our wants and desires, when we take away all these “things” in our lives, the box limits Jesus but when we see how HUGE Jesus really is we wonder why we ever had a box in the first place? Why would we ever try to put limits on God who has no limits!!! When we simply realize that Jesus has done it all, we can trust and live faithfully knowing there’s nothing in our lives that He can’t do!!! Why?? Because He’s already done it all!!! How awesome is that?!?!

We have Christ and Christ has us! He’s all we need and gives us more LIFE than any “thing” or we could ever have! He’s not just enough for us, He’s MORE THAN ENOUGH!!!!!
