God Gold of the day
“”Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.”
So….remember the last post when I told y’all about how to do a SOAP Bible study?!?
Well, those same verses I laid out there for you to SOAP, I decided to get in on the action myself! I have always struggled with the area of Bible study because of all the restraints it feels like comes with it. Reading, sitting still, thinking, all these things are not things that match up well with the way I learn best or the way my mind works. BUT…the cool part is, just like this whole relationship with Jesus, there is no certain way to do things. Jesus offers us Himself, and in that He offers us FREEDOM!!! I know, from what we hear in church or what we hear in our lives daily, there is rules and certain ways to do everything but with Jesus, the rules go out the window!
I noticed this today with doing this Bible study! I’ve always felt stuck in the certain ways I’ve always heard to do it and the ways I’ve seen others do it but, like I said, there is no certain or specific way to read and study God’s Word! He has created us uniquely and creatively, and in His work of creating us He created us with creative juices and different routes and ways to learn best of Who He is, especially when it comes to studying about His Word!
Below I’m placing a picture of my thoughts from this Bible study on these verses from Matthew on the narrow gate and wide. Instead of writing out words and taking the normal route, I just started drawing and turns out, that REALLY helped me understand what Jesus was saying here on another level. The cool part about this is I just took what the Word said and drew it exactly how Jesus spoke it and that can be done with any verse of the Bible!
And don’t think you have to be an artist to do this either!! Seriously, look at those stick people I drew! I can’t draw a lick but it’s not how good the drawing is that matters, it’s the fact that now I can see what Jesus is saying here, and being a visual learner, I can now better understand and see how this truth applies to my life!!! Pretty awesome right?!?!
Maybe this is something you already do or maybe not, either way I highly recommend trying it! The Word of God truly opens up in a new light when we can watch His Word come into pictures!
During drawing this I didn’t really think too hard about how I was drawing it, I just followed the details Jesus gave in these verses and there it was! One of my friends looked at me and said, “wow, that’s cool how you did that because usually I think of the narrow path and wide path being two separate roads. But here it’s the same road and shows how easily we can be distracted and turn around to go back to our old ways of living once on the narrow path with Jesus!”
I had no intention in that but it’s so cool how the Holy Spirit moves us in such creative and wild ways to teach us new lessons! I noticed in this passage and with that revelation of truth from my friend, I saw that this life of following Jesus on the narrow road is all about direction. There is so many things that entice us and tempt us to follow the majority on the wide path, that turns us from Jesus’ road to life, and back to walking with the majority on the road to destruction.
It’s all about direction!!!
Where we keep our focus, what we put in front of our eyes, all we see and hear, if it is towards Jesus and His truth, we are walking down the narrow path with Him that leads to life. But when we change our direction and place our focus behind us, we move from Jesus and back into the ways of the world and the ways our flesh wants us to go. Pretty cool perspective and lesson learned and to think it came through drawing out the Word!!!
Just a thought and a challenge to mix it up and do things outside the box! It’s CRAZY how much truth is opened up as we open up to worshiping and walking with Jesus in the freedom He’s called us to, in whatever way comes up instead of the way we’ve always seen it done or done it in the past!
