God Gold of the Day
“Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”
So much daggum GOLD in these verses!!! Man!! I’m excited to share this with you and I hope we’re all able to take something away from this piece of God’s Word that really moves us closer to Christ in our daily lives!
There is so much gospel truth here in these verses I honestly don’t know where to start. Like everything else I have in this life, it’s easy to see from these verses it starts with Christ. Everything starts with Christ.
Christ is “supreme”, “He is the beginning”, “He is first in everything.”
Looking back over the last few years of my life since Christ came into it, things have changed. My actions, my decisions, my attitude, my character, the way I live and treat others, the things I’ve been able to do and the life I’m in now compared to life before Christ. Everything has changed and I’m not telling you that because I did anything to change it. I actually did nothing. I’m at a loss of words even to be sending these messages or that this is even a thing, all I can say is Christ. Jesus Christ!!! He is the ONLY reason behind all the change and new life. It blows my mind to look back at all the really cool, big benchmark moments over the past couple years of my life and know that those moments only happened because of Jesus. He is behind everything good present in my life. It’s 150% Christ and 0% me.
The crazy thing is after looking back over what Christ has done in my life and these verses. This Word specifically tells us that Christ is “First in EVERYTHING!” “He is SUPREME over all who rise from the dead.” Christ is everything, He has done everything and without Him, we as the church, the body of Christ, can do absolutely NOTHING!
Christ has changed a whole lot in my life in the most amazing ways but I still sit here typing this to you in a place where I spend my time with ME and my wants as FIRST in my life. I begin my days and begin decisions and actions from ME being first. For some reason after all that Christ has done, I still have this struggling belief that I’m capable of doing more. Without Christ at the lead, I fall into temptation, make bad selfish decisions that hurt others, I sin and I mess up a lot. It’s such a huge contrast when looking at why we still do what our old dead self used to do compared to what Christ has already done and continues to do in our lives.
The question I find myself asking all the time is how do I not just KNOW Jesus, KNOW what He has done for me, how do I LIVE in Him, through Him, and for Him. How do I live in the freedom and victory that He’s suffered so much to give me? How do I accept the fact that without God sending His Son to earth to pay the ultimate price for our sins on the cross, closing the gap between us and God. Jesus Christ, dead in the grave and rising on the third day to take us from chained up in slavery to sin and death to FREE!!! VICTORIOUS!!! When He rose, that opened up the door for us to rise with Him, from death to LIFE!!!!
I constantly ask how can that be lived and each time I come back to the same truth that’s highlighted all over the Gospel and these verses. It’s not gonna take reading the Bible 24 hours a day, or trying to work in whatever way to earn my freedom. It’s literally just stepping back, removing the ME from first place in my life and replacing that #1 spot with the Jesus, the One who has already given me freedom, has already given me everything. Seeking Christ in EVERYTHING we do, EVERYTHING we think.
How do we move from KNOWING to LIVING, it’s simply faith. Faith in Jesus Christ. Faith in every decision or action you make that Christ is going to carry you through it, Christ is going to show you exactly what to do, say and which way to go. With Christ at the head of our lives, we just have to be the body. Christ is making all the moves, showing us where to go, seeing what we need to see, speaking what needs to be spoken, hearing what grows us and brings us closer to Him. Christ is FIRST, in everything we do, trust and have faith in what Christ has already done!!!!
If it helps think about it this way, how good would your body be without your head? It would be dead right? You couldn’t really do anything without your head no matter what you try. It’s the same with Christ! Without Him as our head, first in everything and supreme over us and anything else that might stand in the way, we’re dead, we can move around but nothing good comes from a Christ-less body. Really take a second and look back over your life with Christ. Look at all the good that’s happened over the years, the good you’ve done or the changes that have been made to make you better than you were before. Take an honest look at each of those moments and see Who’s behind all that good and all that change, all that purpose and all that new life. I’d bet to say it’s Christ and not you!
The challenge to myself after learning all this awesomeness about Jesus and what He’s done in my life is that ME needs to go far away. I can try really hard to be better or earn my salvation, my forgiveness and this relationship with Jesus I have. I can even try to be like Christ and be the head of my life. My challenge is stop trying to attain what Christ has already given us and stop trying to be FIRST because I can never be Who Jesus is. The good thing is, because of what Christ has done for us, we don’t have to be someone we’re not, we get to have Jesus living with us, in us and through us so why try to go outside that. He’s given us Himself, He’s called us accepted, worthy, forgiven, powerful, and strong THROUGH HIM and HIM ALONE.
With Christ as the head, FIRST, He is the BEGINNING of change, of living and walking in freedom, victory, joy, peace and hope!!!! He is the beginning of everything good, of new life, a life filled with purpose, a life that encourages and helps others, a life that’s actually worth living!!! Christ is with us, Christ is FIRST in EVERYTHING, we don’t need to KNOW anything else, we are the body and He is the head, NOW WE MOVE in Christ!!!!!
