Eyes Up Rise Up

God Gold of the Day

“Your word is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.”/ Psalm 119:105

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which cannot be shaken but endures forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people
    both now and forevermore.

The scepter of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
for then the righteous might use
    their hands to do evil.

Lord, do good to those who are good,
to those who are upright in heart.”/ Psalm 125:1-4

Hope everyone has an awesome weekend! Just ran across these awesome truths from God in Psalms and they have completely changed my week around. It’s crazy when you think about it, some old words, from an old book, from the oldest One of them all, doesn’t sound like life-changing power could come from that right? That’s the cool part it’s not just any old book or random old words, it’s the breath of God, spoken straight from the Creator to me and you with the intention of us looking deeply into the instruction, hope, power, and awesome view of Him, God, the Eternal One and see His heart, His love for us, and His awesome truth that leads us to LIFE in the best of ways. So often I look at God’s Word and read the words He left for us and it’s just words. I’m so often running through life, going off what I got, seeing things how I want to see them, seeing and living in line with the world and putting my trust in things of the world. When I’m looking at these Psalms in my view or how the world would view them, these words don’t mean much. I don’t think these are life-changing promises, but just a pretty poem. It’s easy to skim over these words like they are just that, words. It’s convicting when we experience the other side of this perspective.

When coming to terms that without God, without His presence and power in our lives, we are helpless, hopeless, and incapable of anything good. I came to terms with that this week in what you may think isn’t that big of a deal but if you know me then you’ll get why this was big. I have a slight problem with waking up when I’m supposed to. When I sleep, man I sleep!! A train could go through my room and I wouldn’t budge. It’s nice, don’t get me wrong but when I have life to attend to and things to get up for it’s not so nice then. No matter how many alarm clocks I get or how loud they are, I always seem to find a way to sleep through them while they go off for hours. The worst part about it is with my terrible sleeping habits not helping much, when the day starts off with this lack of structure, it’s hard to start out on the right foot so my whole day is like running after a cheetah, doing everything I can to catch up but never coming close.

Looking at these Psalms this week and being at the point that I know I can’t do anything without God and His guidance in my life. I asked the Lord the other night for help, Lord help me wake up in the morning before I’m supposed to so I can spend some time with you and get my day started on the right foot. That was it, I didn’t do anything but ask God to be the lamp for my feet. GUESS WHAT??? At the sound of the first alarm I was up on my feet without thinking twice, I was in the kitchen whipping up some eggs then it hit me what I was doing and I out loud said, “woah.” From that moment even in what seemed so little, God showed up so BIG like He always does and throughout the rest of the day it wasn’t scheduled out and perfect but after seeing God work so faithfully and watching Him guide my steps into straight paths, I kept coming to Him for everything even on things I would never even think about praying about. I have seen myself fail so many times, watching God succeed and watching His Word reign so true, how could I not look at these next verses from Psalms 125 and feel anything less than secure and at peace in His love. That’s the funny part, all the same stuff was going on in my day but walking it out with the Lord and trusting in His faithfulness that He continued to display over and over again, my day wasn’t perfect by any means but walking in the peace, love and joy that comes when He is the lamp to my feet, that’s about as perfect as it gets.

All that to say, I don’t know what it is for you, what thing you have in your life little or big that seems impossible to defeat, seems like no matter how hard you try you’ll never win. I got good news, you don’t have to keep fighting that battle, dig into the Word and the answers from God will show up all over the place. I thought my situation was just apart of who I was so I thought I could never beat it but we don’t have to believe in ourselves when we have a loving and faithful God right there wanting nothing more than to show us just how much He is in control and He has our backs. These “words” looked a little different when putting myself aside and watching God work so faithfully before my eyes. Everything changes when we take our eyes off ourselves and this world and rest them solely on the Savior. His Word isn’t just words, it’s His Words delivering hope and strength to us when we need it most, life isn’t just a struggle but it’s a life of adventure resting behind the awesomeness of God, His Word is so powerful and life changing and it blows my mind to think one moment of giving up our impossible to God and watching Him makes it look more than possible, our faith and trust in Him just grows and grows and grows because our view of Him is bigger than ever, seeing life through God’s eyes calls us to keep our eyes up and rise up.

Eyes up and Rise up.

24 year old dude with not a clue what he's doing but God's grace continues to amaze me! Current Seminary student, avid adventure seeker, and getting married to the most humble, weird, and beautiful girl on the planet! Wasted a lot of years living what I thought was the "good life", then Christ showed me what living really is. I pray that my story can somehow help in whatever way possible, to give encouragement and hope that Christ can do the same with you.
