Living in Reverence

God Gold of the Day

“For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love. By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the people of the world revere him. For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.”

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭33:4-9‬

When I was growing up in church, I was always in and out, hearing what I wanted to hear and not really paying attention to a lot of the Word brought forth by the men of God in front of me. Through the years, there was one thing that always stood out and it took me a lotta years of going my way to see the truth and power behind it. There was a pastor that preached several years at my church growing up that would always make everybody stand when he read the Scripture during the service. Preacher Jimmy is what everyone called him, the man that baptized me in a horse trough while our church was being rebuilt. He would say, “everyone stand in reverence to the reading of God’s Word.” I never had a clue why we stood but it makes a whole lot more sense these days than it did then.

After digging into God’s Word and the impact that the powerful truths found in each verse has had, there is still days where even though I send these messages out, I find myself picking out verses that fit for the day. There are still a lot of days where I fail to pick up the Word and look intentionally into what the Lord has for me. These verses in Psalms show the magnitude of just how powerful God’s Word is; “For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm,” By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth.”

Think about that for a minute. We have access to the Word of God, the same God and same voice Who spoke all of this around us, me and you into existence. How powerful is His Word and how awesome is it that He left us so much of His Word of truth to live by, learn from, and grow closer to Himself. It’s crazy thinking about all the days I fail to dig into His Word, not just pick it up, find something that sounds good and roll with it but really digging into His Word with deep intentions. Digging into His Word like it’s all I got, like my life depends on it because honestly when our word is compared to His, our life really does depend on what He has spoken to us. Noticing the power sitting right in front of me, I wonder how I can so often overlook it’s importance in my life and the fact that the truth and promises He’s left for us in there holds such chain breaking, life-changing power, bring hope when there isn’t any and continually showing us just how much we need God’s presence in our lives. It makes a lot of sense now when I think about why Preacher Jimmy asked us to stand because His Word deserves our upmost reverence and priority. With the new year here and so many resolutions being made, I’m making a challenge to myself and you also that we make a point to dig deeper each day into God’s powerful Word. Making Him the center of everything we do and standing firm in the voice He has in our lives. Just think, if everything was created at His Word, what can His Word change in our lives? What addictions, struggles, or worries can He completely turn the tide of in our daily walk with Him? It’s crazy to think of the possibilities because there is no limit to what He can do!

Now, today, and each day moving forward, “lets stand in the reverence to the reading of God’s Word.”

24 year old dude with not a clue what he's doing but God's grace continues to amaze me! Current Seminary student, avid adventure seeker, and getting married to the most humble, weird, and beautiful girl on the planet! Wasted a lot of years living what I thought was the "good life", then Christ showed me what living really is. I pray that my story can somehow help in whatever way possible, to give encouragement and hope that Christ can do the same with you.
